Evernote Windows Hack: Clip Web Pages as PDFs

Evernote pdf clipping in Windows One of the big differences between Evernote on the Windows and Mac platforms is that Mac users have the ability to clip web pages from Safari, and send those pages into Evernote as PDF files.  Windows users can clip pages to Evernote, but those pages aren’t sent as PDF files.  As a result, the pages often lose important formatting in the transition.

Firefox users on Windows can get similar functionality to their Mac counterparts by installing the PDF Download add-on, and then, when downloading a page as a PDF, selecting Evernote as the default program to open the file.  Read on for more detailed instructions.

Supercharge Your Firefox Browsing With Icons

smartbookmarks1One way to streamline your Firefox browsing experience is to move away from using the dropdown boomarks menu, and instead use the bookmarks toolbar.  To streamline the experience even further, and to fit more bookmarks on the toolbar, you can modify the toolbar so that the sites you frequently visit are accessible by a row of site icons (known as "favicons") across the toolbar.  There are two Firefox plugins to help you accomplish this.

10 Free Programs I Can’t Live Without, Part 1

free2 It really is amazing how much free tech is out there.  Scanning over my desktop, I realized just how many of the programs that I use on a regular basis don’t cost me a dime.  Some of them, I couldn’t live without. That means it is time for a list of the free applications that I find to be essential. To qualify for my top ten list, a program has to be installed on my machine, regardless of whether its functionality uses the internet or not.  I’m leaving Evernote off of the list, because I’ve upgraded to the paid version.  At some point in the future, I’ll take a look at cloud applications.  Without further adieu, I present the first five.  In a later post, I posted the next five.     Photo by Robert S.
