Pzizz is a program that lets you relax your body and take both short and long naps. I was introduced to this program more than a year ago by a friend, and I have used it extensively ever since. How pzizz works is very simple- you choose from a list of bundles (energizer, meditation, sleep), select options that you want, lay down on your bed or a chair, and enjoy a deep state of relaxation.
I’ve talked about Evernote quite a bit here. Next to Firefox, it may be my most used application. One of the strengths of Evernote is that it is available on several different platforms, such as Windows, Mac, portable USB, iPhone, Blackberry, Palm Pre, and via the web. A quick visit to the Evernote forums, though, reveals that many people feel that one of the chinks in Evernote’s armor is the Windows client. That will change, with a new Windows version in the pipeline.
Windows only: Fences is a program, free for personal use, that helps you organize your Windows desktop. I don’t know about you, but I have problem with organization when it comes to computers. When I install an application, I often install the startup icon for that application on my desktop. When I download files, I usually download them to my desktop, thinking that if they are on my desktop, I won’t forget to clean them up later. That’s the plan at least. The reality is that after time, this results in a desktop filled with many application icons, downloaded files, and other debris that makes my desktop a virtual mess.
It really is amazing how much free tech is out there. Scanning over my desktop, I realized just how many of the programs that I use on a regular basis don’t cost me a dime. Some of them, I couldn’t live without. That means it is time for a list of the free applications that I find to be essential. To qualify for my top ten list, a program has to be installed on my machine, regardless of whether its functionality uses the internet or not. I’m leaving Evernote off of the list, because I’ve upgraded to the paid version. At some point in the future, I’ll take a look at cloud applications. Without further adieu, I present the first five.
