Scrivener Beta Expands

Scrivener is a fantastic writing tool. If you’re a lawyer, it’s even great for writing briefs. Scrievener currently lacks an iOS app, but that should change soon. In April, Scrivener for iOS entered closed beta. Now, it sounds like the release is getting even closer.

Scrivener for iOS has been in closed beta with around 75 people for the past month. We’re now looking to expand the beta group, so are throwing open the doors to volunteers. If you’re interested in helping test Scrivener for iOS, read on!

.
We only have a limited number of beta testing spots available, and right now we’re looking to add between 200 and 250 new people to the pool.

The beta so far has been going great, with beta testers using Scrivener for iOS every day without any real problems.

I can’t wait to see this, but I’m not going to apply for the beta test – they need people to truly contribute to find bugs, etc., and I’d worry I’d just want an early peek at the app.

PopClip – iOS-style Text Manipulation on Your Mac

Mention the convergence of iOS and OS X, and many Mac users contort with rage. The thought of OS X moving toward iOS is viewed by many as “dumbing down” the desktop system. There are ways in which OS X can become more efficient by borrowing from iOS, however. One way is through text manipulation, via an app called PopClip. On iOS, if you select text, a little box pops up above the text, with options that are dependent on the context in which the box was invoked. Choices could include Cut, Copy, Paste, text formatting (bold, italics, etc.), or more.

Quickly Reboot Your Mac Into Windows

QuickBoot iconAfter making a decision on Windows 7 vs. Windows 8 on one of my Macs, I find myself occasionally using Bootcamp to boot my Macs into Windows. That involves holding down the Option key while booting, and then selecting the Windows partition. If I’m already in Windows, it is easier to reboot into OS X – there is an option in the Windows system tray to reboot into OS X. After a bit of searching, I found a couple of options to similarly boot into Windows from OS X, without having to sit there and hold down the Option key.

Byword Adds Blog and Evernote Publishing [Mac/iOS]

Byword optionsByword has long been one of my favorite text editors on the Mac, iPad, and iPhone. I like it for its simplicity, its effortless sync between Mac and iOS, and its Markdown support. (For a short primer on Markdown and its virtues, check down my earlier post on it.) Byword has recently become even more useful, adding support for direct publishing to Evernote, WordPress, Tumblr, Blogger, and Scriptogram. Read more
