TWiT morning show What’s your morning entertainment routine?  Do you listen to the radio, or watch television in the a.m?  If you’re disappointed by the offerings, have you ever wished for a a morning show that focused on tech and social media?  If so, you just might get your wish.

On various shows on the TWiT network, Leo Laporte recently has mentioned that he is in the planning stages of starting a morning show that you could watch on almost any internet-connected device.  We’ve previously written about the TWiT network, an internet network that streams live audio and video shows that cover all angles of technology, including the internet, Apple, Microsoft, Google, security, and more.  The network, a spiritual successor of sorts to TechTV, makes its shows available live, but also via audio and video podcasts (actually, the podcasts came first, followed by the live streaming).

So, what do we know about the plans so far?

  • Laporte is looking for others to host the show, and has already talked to potential hosts.
  • TWiT is planning for four hosts for the show.
  • The show would be tech-focused, but likely would have the news at the top of every hour.
  • The show likely would be called TWiT Morning.
  • The show would run Monday through Friday.
  • The initial talk is that the show would run from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Eastern, and then be rebroadcast from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Pacific.  Different hours have been mentioned.
  • TWiT may have a separate channel for the morning show, and rebroadcast the show around the clock, since TWiT has listeners all around the globe.
  • SquareSpace has offered use of their old offices in New York for the "TWiT East" studios, as SquareSpace still has a long term lease there.
  • It would be available for live audio and video streaming on various platforms (iPhone, Android, internet, etc.), so you could have it with you at all times – from shower, to breakfast, to subway or car.
  • The show would hope to capitalize on what ad agencies have told Laporte- that they can’t reach 18-34 year-olds, as they don’t watch much TV or otherwise get exposed to advertising.
  • Advertisers have already expressed interest in the show.
  • The show would have less ads than traditional radio.

My biggest concern with a morning show, is that my plate is pretty full as is.  Back when I wrote about TWiT in July of 2009, I was listening to This Week in Tech, net@night, and The Tech Guy, all as podcasts.  Since then, I’ve also added This Week in Google (TWiG) to my weekly rotation.  TWiG covers not just Google, but cloud computing in general.  My typical listening times are in the morning as I get ready, and during my commutes.

Still, I certainly would give a TWiT morning show a try, to see if it sucks me in.  What about you?  Could you wake up to a morning show that is on the internet instead of on the radio or television?   If not, is it because you have no interest, or is it because the streaming technology isn’t streamlined enough for you?
