Getting Things Done (GTD) in Evernote with Only One Notebook

Getting Things Done in Evernote with One Notebook A while back, I was working a job that required much more effort and responsibility than was reflected in my pay grade — familiar story? Well, combined with multiple side-projects, keeping up with my wife, newborn daughter, two dogs and a plethora of other things that required my time and energy, I was drowning. I started researching ways to get things done more efficiently. That’s how I first came across the cultural phenomena (some would just say cult…) that is GTD. A friend of mine who was “in the know” about such things was nice enough to lend me an audio version of a GTD seminar by David Allen. After about 2 weeks of listening (on the train, before bed, whenever I could), and an attempted implementation, I realized that I needed a system that was less file cabinets and paper and more suited to my digital life.

Today, 40Tech is pleased to present another guest post from Srikanth AD from the Tech Inspiration blog.

excel

Microsoft Excel may be the standard among spreadsheet applications, but if you're looking to save a few dollars, there are many alternative applications available. Most of these applications are free to download and use, and are very similar to Microsoft Excel in terms of usage and features.  Some of these applications are cloud-based, and run from within your web browser.  Others are traditional desktop applications that you install much like you would install any other program.

3 Reasons Google Wave Won’t Flop

bellyflop Several weeks ago, I questioned whether tech geeks were out of touch with the rest of the world.  From having no "real world" friends with Twitter accounts, to having family members who could care less about the tech over which I get excited, I pondered whether we tech geeks lived in a different reality. One example of the type of tech that only tech geeks might love is Google Wave.  Wave is Google’s next generation e-mail/instant messaging/collaboration/social media tool.  As the Google Operating System blog explains, a "wave is equal parts conversation and document, where people can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more."  For a thorough explanation of Wave, check out Mashable’s Complete Guide to Google Wave. But is Wave something only a tech geek could love?

pzizzlogo Pzizz is a program that lets you relax your body and take both short and long naps. I was introduced to this program more than a year ago by a friend, and I have used it extensively ever since. How pzizz works is very simple- you choose from a list of bundles (energizer, meditation, sleep), select options that you want, lay down on your bed or a chair, and enjoy a deep state of relaxation.

Password Manager Shootout – eWallet vs. KeePass vs. LastPass

pwkey

I initially intended for this post to discuss my disappointment with password managers.  After a few years of hearing tech sites and other tech geeks praise password managers, I finally jumped on the bandwagon last week.  A password manager is software that helps you organize and remember passwords, PIN codes, and sometimes even bank account and credit card information.  I wanted a password manager that would work across multiple platforms – PC, iPhone, and U3 (SanDisk’s thumbdrive technology).  For that reason, I started with eWallet.  From there, I also looked at KeePass, which is the manager I have seen discussed the most in tech circles.  In both cases, I was disappointed.  I was wondering whether my expectations had been too high.  It was then that I discovered LastPass.

For another password manager comparison, check out our showdown between LastPass and 1Password.
