Due to the crap that was the Vista operating system (at least without 4 GB of ram and a few tricks up your sleeve), many people have skipped the OS altogether and stuck with XP. Many of those same people, however, are excited to try out the much vaunted Windows 7 operating system, due out tomorrow for public consumption. Windows 7 is touted to be everything that Vista was supposed to be and more, and even some die hard Windows haters have given the new OS grudgingly good reviews. However, there is one major snag in the upgrade to Windows 7 from XP: you can’t actually upgrade it. You have to do a clean install. This can cause some problems for people as they will lose all of their programs, settings, and more. To that end, here are seven quick tips to help your install be a little more smooth and butter-like.

One of the biggest news items this week was an announcement that T-Mobile Sidekick users had all of their online data lost, possibly permanently, by Danger and its parent company Microsoft. After sending this shockwave through the Sidekick community, another announcement followed that the data might be recoverable after all. This is a relief to Sidekick owners, but begs a bigger question – can we really rely on the cloud for the future of computing?
A few weeks back, Google unveiled the long-awaited push Gmail for iPhone and Windows Mobile. Push Gmail is part of the Google Sync package, which is still in Beta and previously offered only Google Calendar sync and Google Contacts sync. The calendar and contacts features have been working fairly flawlessly for some time now, aside from the inability to support multiple calendars and a few hiccups with the sync connection on some phones. Gmail push, unfortunately, has proven to be somewhat imperfect.

You may think from the title that I am a bit less than enthused with Skymarket, the new Windows Marketplace for Mobile app store. You wouldn’t be wrong, either. This may come as something of a surprise to some of you, considering how much I have obviously been looking forward to the release of Skymarket, but my bitterness, and thus bitter message, is a direct result of keen disappointment.
