Right now, I’m up to 128 snippets in TextExpander. There are several that I have committed to memory, but even more that I hardly ever use. This is because I can’t remember the shortcuts to launch them, so it is just as quick for me to type normally as it is for me to open TextExpander and find a particular shortcut. I recently learned of a quicker solution, however.

The Livescribe Echo is gadget that I’ve had my eye for some time now. It intrigued me, but I never felt a burning need to own one. A few weeks ago, though, I was contacted by a representive from Staples, the office supply store. Staples wanted to get the word out that it sells gadgets, and was offering to provide me with a product that it sells, for me to review and keep. After considering a few items, such as a scanner, printer, DSLR lens, or even a Synology NAS, I settled on the Livescribe Echo. I picked it because it was an item I might not have otherwise purchased for myself. Was it a good choice? Read on for my impressions.
Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you’ve heard of Fifty Shades of Grey. Half of your female friends on Facebook have probably posted about it. Recently, fans of the NSFW podcast on the TWiT network banded together to write a novel, in the spirit of Fifty Shades of Grey. From discussions that I’ve heard on other shows on the TWiT network, it sounds like they viewed it as a social experiment of sorts. The results were surprising.

His story didn’t involve weak passwords, but generally underscores how important it is for all of us to take an inventory of how secure we keep our online information. One component of this involves your passwords, and one step in password security is making sure that your passwords are strong.
Earlier this year, I wrote about the pros and cons of buying your Mac apps from the Mac App Store. Since then, I’ve come to a firm decision – when possible I will buy my Mac apps directly from the developer, instead of from the Mac App Store. I can thank Apple and the far-reaching effects of its sandboxing policies for leading me to this decision.
