Behind the Curtain at 40Tech – WooThemes Review

If you’re a regular visitor to 40Tech, you’ve probably noticed the new look.  The look is largely due to a new theme by WooThemes.  A few months ago, the 40Tech team decided that a new look was needed in order to grow the site and to implement some upcoming new features that we had in mind (stay tuned for those).  After searching around for a new WordPress theme from numerous sources, all signs kept pointing back to WooThemes.  While the beauty of WooThemes’ designs was what sealed the deal, it was the support I ran into after the sale that impressed me the most. A New Look for 40Tech

Welcome to the new look for 40Tech.  We’ll have a post up in the next few days with some information about the design.  The logo you see up top was designed by our very own Bobby Travis, who does this sort of thing for a living.  We hope that the new look feels a bit cleaner to you, and helps you navigate the site more easily.  It also should help us in our plans to grow the site going forward.  Bear with us as we tweak the site, as you may see some glitches here and there.  Stay tuned for more news!


How to Navigate a Geek Marriage

geek wedding Being a tech geek brings its own challenges.  One challenge that we face is how to balance our many geek interests with our real world commitments.  And one of the most important parts of the real world that we need to manage is our marriage or relationship with our spouse or significant other.

So, how does one foster a strong marriage, while still indulging tech interests?  Really, the same tips apply to a geek marriage that apply to any marriage involving a spouse who is passionate about a hobby.  Ever know an avid golfer?  He or she probably faces some of the same challenges.  With that in mind, here are some tips from someone who is probably completely unqualified to give them. 3 Free Tools to Encrypt Individual Evernote Notes

encryption lockWe’ve previously written about how to lock down Evernote from prying eyes, on your own machine.  That doesn’t protect your data, though, once it is out there on Evernote’s servers.  While it would be horrible for Evernote’s business if your data were hacked into on their end, you can never be too safe.  There is currently no way to encrypt individual Evernote notes, but there are methods for encrypting the contents of individual notes.  Read on for three such methods.  If you are going to use any of these methods on select notes, make sure that you use descriptive note titles, as the contents of those notes will no longer be searchable once encrypted.
