My daughter is going to be devastated and might never recover if Rey does go to the dark side. I hope this article is right: https://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/283011/star-wars-dark-side-rey-explained

@40Tech her redemption would certainly setup the potential for a brand new trilogy 😉

@jhull @40tech After the force awakens I wondered if Rey would turn to the dark side and Kylo would turn to the light, but I’ve heard some good arguments that he’s had two clear chances to return to the light and rejected both, so that seems unlikely. I wonder if it’s like Luke facing himself (as Vader) in Empire?

@jhull Indeed. I worry, though, that it might turn off a young (very young) generation of fans. My 7 year-old daughter might be so heartbroken she’d never go back. It was fascinating watching her connect with a female lead.

@ChrisJWilson I sure hope so. My daughter can’t be the only one who would be devastated. They did say this would conclude the Skywalker saga, so I’m hoping this isn’t a setup for something else.

@40Tech if this is the conclusion, what could the next trilogy possibly be about? The director is not known for being able to bring things to a satisfying conclusion…

@jhull I remember reading somewhere that next trilogy was going to be a completely new story set in either a new part of the galaxy or a new time period
