Today, 40Tech is pleased to present you with a guest post from Anthony Benedict.
Do you work on the computer a lot? If you do, there are some simple things that you can do that will eliminate mountains of stress.
Of course buying the newest and fastest computer out there will definitely help increase your daily efficiency, but this article isn’t going to give you tips that are that expensive. Here are a few “somewhat” expensive upgrades that you can give your workstation.
Buy Another Monitor
Working with only one monitor is like doing the dishes with no dishwasher. Instead of being able to just plug and chug the dishwasher in 5 minutes, you spend up to 20 minutes hand washing each and every one – causing a lot of buildup in the sink before you even get to doing the dishes.
This is especially useful if you work in the SEO industry, or if you are a programmer or web developer. You are definitely going to have to be doing a lot of multi-tasking – and multitasking with only one computer screen (especially if it is a small one) can be terrible, even painful. You can get a great monitor for under $150.00, and it may be one of the best investments you ever make for you productivity.
Purchase an Internal Collaborating System
This makes working with others extremely easy. This is especially so if everyone you work with works from home. This will eliminate all of the wasted time that comes along with relaying the same message to ten different people – but this is not all that an internal collaborating system does.
Internal collaborating systems allow you to work with others by creating projects, setting milestones (goals to reach on a timeline), creating task lists for everyone involved, making customizable databases, and much more. It’s like an online office and they work wonders. There are all sorts of different internal collaborating systems that you can get into. All you have to do is a few Google searches. Some of them may be much more expensive than others; for example the one that I used ran about $500 a month, but there are definitely less expensive methods. Internal collaborating systems are all about saving time when working with others, and as we have all heard many times before – “Time is money.”
Relationship Management Software
You would think that keeping track of your relationships should be easy enough, and that you should be able to do so by just using the memory in your brain. But keeping track of many of your relationships can be quite tough. Relationships are hard, even in the business world, and they need work – which is why you will need help.
In fact you can eliminate the whole need of a public relations service (or a link building service if you run websites), by simply making a smaller investment into some software that can help you do it yourself.
The big thing that can come with this software is that it will take care of many of your daily, and very tedious, data entry activities. These activities can cost you your whole day and they can cost you a lot of money. This type of software helps automate the process of keeping track of the details between you and every business contact you come in to. Once again there are many great relationship management systems out there. Usually the cost in dependent on how many relationships or how much information you will need to store.
These three tips on investments will help increase your workflow by tenfold, and may even perhaps allow you to turn your freelancing gigs into a legitimate small business – if you haven’t done that already.

As long as you are sure that such an investment will proof to be important and improve your work flow, then it is money well spend! :) But my advice is not to rush into purchasing such services, instead search for reviews of their reliability and pros and cons.

Buying another monitor is actually a great idea that I never thought off. I’ve recently got the opportunity to try a dual monitors system at some friend. At first I said the extra monitor its just a fad and he doesn’t really need it. But now that I think of it it would help me tremendous.

I don’t think I could survive without a second monitor now. I do so much multitasking (debatable how wise that is), and a second monitor is essential for that.
