Hello, I'm Evan. I write about tech from my perspective – that of the average tech geek, sometimes with my lawyer glasses on. You can also find me on Twitter and at my real-life job as a lawyer.    MORE ABOUT ME.

Is there a word or phrase in the English language for the feeling you get when you buy something you want but don’t need? Looking for suggestions. All I’ve got is “first world guilt.”

I remember the quaint days before the first Watch was released, when I thought the Apple Watch wouldn’t be like the iPhone, and even geeks would keep the same one for many years. Kind of like regular watches. Oops. (2/3)

If you decide you’re not setting an alarm to get up at 3 am to order the new Apple Watch, but happen to wake up then anyway, someone’s telling you something, right? (1/3)

Apple Watch Series 4 – Bullet Point List of Improvements

I’m trying to come up with a concise list of improvements to the Apple Watch, to evaluate whether it is worth an upgrade. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far. Granted, much of this comes from press releases, so it isn’t really intended to be an objective evaluation.

  • 30% bigger screen with only slightly bigger footprint
  • Thinner
  • 2X faster
  • FDA-cleared EKG scanner
  • Updated accelerometer and gyroscope
  • Fall detection
  • Better cellular strength due to new underside
  • Haptic feedback in Digital Crown
  • Louder speaker.

Did I miss anything?

If you could only get one, which would it be? Assume you already have a Series 3 Watch & a 2012 Mac Mini (used as a media server), but you don’t have a HomePod:

  • HomePod
  • Apple Watch Series 4
  • wait for new Mac Mini

Asking for a friend, who is leaning toward HomePod.
