I was using that certain other new-ish Twitter-like network, & seeing only new posts in the timeline made it so much easier to follow, & pleasant to use. Wish there were a setting for that here. The “Show mentions only to people I’m following” setting gets part way there

More often than not, I click into a conversation/mention in my timeline to find they’re talking about something different than I thought, and I click back out. In a busy timeline it can be just clutter, even though it is people you follow.
