“Go for the Eyes, Boo, go for the eyes!” Does that evoke powerful memories from years ago? One of my favorite computer games ever was Baldur’s Gate. I remember many a late night fascinated with what seemed like a wide open D&D world, come to life. If you have similar memories, then hang on to your seat. Baldur’s Gate, one of the most decorated computer games ever, is making a comeback. This time you’ll be able to get your fill of the famed D&D computer RPG on your PC, Mac, iPad, or Android tablet, with some pretty cool enhancements, thanks to the upcoming Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition.
The original Baldur’s Gate was released in 1998. The upcoming Enhanced Edition will run an upgraded version of the original’s Infinity Engine. It will include the content from the original game, plus the Tales of the Sword Coast Expansion, and some new content. This new content includes a new adventure as well as a few new characters.
Since the original game was already so vast, I actually might be more excited for the engine enhancements. The UI system is being reworked to support larger resolutions, including the new iPad’s 2048×1536 resolution. The ability to zoom in and out dynamically during gameplay is also being added. The developer is also promising cross platform multiplayer, and game saves that are available across platforms. I’m not sure how they’ll pull that off on the iPad, but if they can, it will be pretty sweet to switch from system to system. I assume you’ll need to purchase the game separately on each platform, though.
The game was initially set for a September release for PC, Mac, and iPad, with Android to follow thereafter. The September release has just been pushed back to November. That’s OK by me. I’d rather the developer get this right than rush it out the door.
Are you as excited for this as I am? My gaming time is limited, but I’ll be sure to carve out some time for this one.

Hi, Evan! I couldn’t wait to play this game on my iPad, I’m quite disappointed of this delay. If have a deadline, then follow it! (at least that’s my requirement for companies to comply)

This was the best game ever (coming from someone that doesn’t really play games). Thrilled about the release. I’ve been playing BG 1 and 2 on my Mac for more than 10 years. Amazing game!
