I think you’re spot on in your analysis of what we want and need… I’ve just been trying Google Tasks (way too simple) and Producteev (which I’m currently using).

I’ve used some of today on checking out RTM and Toodledo. I instantly miss the Producteev’s calendar view in RTM and I simply couldn’t get over Toodledo’s very clunky interface. Call me superficial, but I’m simply too used to the modern and streamlined GUI of the likes of Producteev that I can’t get over it :)

I must say Producteev seems to have the interface, simplicity, multiple workspaces and collaborative / sharing down really well, and all it really needs is the project with subtasks?

BTW on my android I use Astrid syncing with Producteev and Pure Calendar Widget which syncs with gcalendar and astrid to show both the next calendar events and priority color-coded- and date-marked tasks.
