I think you make some very good points. In my opinion, Apple is far more draconian than Microsoft in their approach… yet continue to benefit from a cult-like mentality among much of their fan base.

What delicious irony it is that if it weren't for Microsoft's cash infusion back in the 90s, Apple may have been not much more than a footnote at this point… yet now we regularly discuss whether their tactics are monopolistic.
